Kerry Quaglia, executive director of Home Headquarters, a nonprofit housing and community development organization in Syracuse, said the construction of smaller homes and the rehabilitation of antiquated housing in the city will be needed to expand the area’s supply of housing and keep prices from getting out of reach for the average homebuyer.

“It’s never a bad thing to have more jobs in your community,” he said. “But we need to plan more affordable housing. You’ve got to have a lot of different options for people.”

City Parks Implementing Tree Giveaway for Salt Springs Block Blitz

As part of its’ long-term goal to increase tree canopy in the city, the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs will hold a tree giveaway, while supplies last, on Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. during the Home HeadQuarters Block Blitz in Homer Wheaton Park, 311 Mountainview Ave, 13224. Mannion announces $108,300 for legal aid organizations

Company news: Christopher Community Inc. announces four new hires

Jenna McClave was hired as development project manager. She is a life resident of Syracuse and for decades worked for local nonprofit organizations, most recently Home HeadQuarters, Inc., where she started as senior lending administrator before moving into their home ownership department to run the pre-purchase home buyer education program. McClave is a HUD-certified housing counselor and spent the last three years as manager of the Syracuse Financial Empowerment Center leading a team of counselors to assist more than 1,000 Central New York residents to achieve many outcomes, most notably reducing their debt by more than $2.6 million.
