Early Friday morning the rattling of rakes, crunching of dirt and the whooshing of paint brushes could be heard throughout the Leavenworth Park neighborhood.
That’s because more than 300 corporate, student, city and community volunteers were participating in Home HeadQuarters’ 13th annual Block Blitz neighborhood cleanup.
The non-profit, which provides loans and home improvement financing to low-income families, hopes re-beautifying the neighborhood will relieve some of the burden for long-time home owners struggling to maintain their property, while also attracting new buyers.
