300+ Volunteers to Work On 60 Properties Friday In Salt Springs/Le Moyne College Neighborhood As Part Of 15th Annual Block Blitz

Syracuse, NY – More than 300 corporate team members, local contractors, high school and college students, neighborhood residents, city workers and other community stakeholders are scheduled to improve more than 60 properties in one day, rain or shine, as part of Home HeadQuarters’ 15th annual Block Blitz event on Friday, September 16. The event kicks off at 9am in Homer Wheaton Park on Mountainview Avenue with an appearance and comments by Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, Le Moyne College President Linda Le Mura and non-profit housing organization CEO Kerry Quaglia. This Block Blitz is the first event held again in person since the pandemic.

Volunteer Projects and Teams for the day include:

  • 155 5-gallon drums of driveway sealer delivered with four volunteer teams sealing driveways.

  • Le Moyne College Women’s Lacrosse will install Pickleball courts on existing city park tennis courts with help from the CNY Pickleball Association and E-Z Pave Companies.

  • City of Syracuse along with Onondaga Earth Corp will be giving away 100 free trees for planting to neighborhood residents and planting new trees in Audubon Parkway along with 20 ESM High School kids and neighbors.

  • 60 CNS High School kids will work on projects throughout Springfield Garden Apartments with help from Le Moyne College athletes and RMH Property Management.

  • Three houses will be fully repainted/sided (1216 Salt Springs Rd., 526 Mountainview Ave. and 919 Salt Springs Rd.)

  • Volunteer teams, including teams from National Grid, Home Depot, M&T Bank, and CFCU Community Credit Union, Syracuse University will work on 60+ properties and do landscaping, painting and more.

 In the 15 years of Block Blitz events, Home HeadQuarters has helped direct resources and attention to more than 600 properties in the city’s Near Westside, Southside and Northside neighborhoods. This is the first Block Blitz event in an Eastside neighborhood.
